The Author

Dr. Stefan Skrimshire is a Research Associate in Philosophy of Religion at The University of Manchester.

He teaches and researches the interaction of ideas about ‘the end’ in philosophy, religion, and culture: from Judaeo-Christian apocalypse, to utopian belief and messianism in contemporary politics. He is the author of Politics of Fear, Practices of Hope (Continuum, 2008); editor of Future Ethics: Climate Change and Apocalyptic Imagination (Continuum, 2010) and author of numerous articles and book chapters at the intersection of philosophy, theology and politics.

This film is part of his research project, Future Ethics which has brought together activists, academics, policy-makers and artists engaged in the politics of climate change.

Exploring ideas about climate, society and the future is also an essentially creative task. Stefan is a member of the Manchester based music collective Single Cell, who specialise in curating, performing and composing music around themes of society and community. He plays Cello in Caulbearers and Double Bass in Lunar Coup.
